NYMC was born Valentine’s weekend, 2011, in Mesa, Arizona. Right now we’re meeting in peoples’ homes. We’re looking for something like a former restaurant on a busy street in east Mesa to call our own. Worship will be on Thursday nights beginning Fall of 2011.
Henri Nouwen writes, “The table is the barometer of family and community life. Let's do everything possible to make the table the place to celebrate intimacy.”
And so, NotYoMamasChurch gathers for lunch on Sundays. We hear Jesus’ request to be remembered whenever we gather to celebrate and eat together. A lost art in modern society, family meals are the core of community. This is one way we facilitate our Mission to set a feast for all the Prodigals.
Other Sunday activities may include Sunday School for all ages, group meetings, pastoral appointments, choir practice, training for lay visitation ministers. Spiritual and emotional feasts are here.
In 5 years, we want our place to be a hub of activity. During the week senior citizens can come in for computer help and classes. Someone will help them with medical forms, take their vitals. They’ll stay to catch the school kids who come in for after - school supervision, homework help, fine arts classes.
There is a day room for sick kids of single parents.
Evenings are filled with recovery groups, First Aid training, cooking classes, fine arts classes.
We’re evolving daily. Come help us make history, and have fun while you’re at it. Our specialty is feeding body, mind and spirit at NotYoMamasChurch.
